The Abramoff Connection

Jack Abramoff, American lawyer and lobbyist, and close personal friend of Tom DeLay, is apparently involved in so many political scandals and investigations of scandals that the mind boggles trying to follow it all. This Daily Kos entry on Saturday is a good place to start, with quotes and links throughout.

...the GOP will be covered with an avalanche of scandals.

We might take control of Congress because so many in the GOP will suddenly need to "spend more time with their families".

They are in BIG trouble. It couldn't happen to a better set of scoundrels.

Any dollar Jack touched leads to another scandal. Grab a thread and start pulling.

Things are really getting ugly in Scotland....

I think what strikes Americans first upon reading this is that the ocean seems very, very large. Over in Scotland the big scandal is cabbages and cauliflower. Over here it's executives bilking their company of $600 million, destroying the retirement funds of hundreds of employees and ruining the investments of thousands of shareholders. It's our involvement in an illegal and immoral war that is ruining the military, causing death and injury to countless thousands, threatening the economy and causing scorn and hatred in the rest of the world.

None of this justifies the humiliation that the employees of the Bank of Scotland suffered, of course. It was more than just a stupid idea, as they have now discovered.

Scofflaw of the Year

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Do as I say, not as I do. While calling for tougher parking rules, such as doubling the fine from $25 to $50 for violating street cleaning restrictions, this Boston city councilor has racked up thousands of dollars in tickets himself, and doesn't even seem embarrassed by it.
