Underground Art

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Subways aren't just endless dank, dreary tunnels anymore, as Metro Arts and Architecture shows. Cities are budgeting original art works and beautiful architecture into their underground systems. Los Angeles allocated 0.5% of subway construction costs to the creation of original art works, to which more than 250 artists contributed. One example is shown above. Some look like palaces, others like museums.

What a great use of space. Hats off to these cities that recognize the importance of art in communities and are willing to spend money on work like this.

Wish I could visit them all.
